Summerside Honours Community Champions at Annual Award Ceremony

SUMMERSIDE, PE – The City of Summerside proudly celebrated the outstanding contributions of its community members at the annual Award Ceremony held on May 1st at Credit Union Place. Recognizing excellence and dedication across various spheres of community life, the event highlighted the remarkable achievements of eight individuals and groups who have made significant impacts within Summerside and beyond.

Mayor Dan Kutcher expressed his admiration for the award recipients, stating, "These awards reflect the heart and soul of our city – individuals and organizations committed to making Summerside a better place for all. Their dedication, passion, and selflessness serve as an inspiration.”

 

The recipients of the 2024 Summerside Community Awards are as follows:

  1. Youth of the Year – Makiya Noonan

  2. Good Neighbour of the Year Award, Non-Resident – Jody Sentner

  3. Veteran Recognition Award – Marle Gaudet

  4. Volunteer of the Year – Diana Skrastins

  5. Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Champion - Lest We Forget Veteran Committee – PEI Veteran Success Centre Project

  6. George Key Sr. Citizen of the Year Award – Isaac MacLean

  7. Sport Tourism Leader of the Year Award – Doug Dexter, President of Summerside Minor Hockey

  8. Mayor's Medal of Honour – George Dalton

These awardees represent the diverse tapestry of Summerside, each contributing in their unique way to the betterment of our community. From youth empowerment to veteran support, from fostering inclusivity to promoting sports tourism, their efforts have left an indelible mark on Summerside's social fabric.

 

Reflecting on the significance of the Awards Ceremony, Mayor Kutcher added, "This event is not just about recognizing achievements; it's about celebrating the spirit of community and the power of collective action.
