Summerside Set for Major Waterfront Transformation with Iconic Shipyard Property

SUMMERSIDE, PE - The City of Summerside is excited to announce a major transformation project that promises to support in redefining its downtown waterfront. The Summerside Shipyard, an iconic waterfront property, has been acquired by Duke Cormier, President of Corfam Investments Inc. This strategic acquisition marks the beginning of a visionary project aimed at revitalizing the area and providing a vibrant hub for residents and visitors alike.

The announcement, made today at a press conference emceed by Deputy Mayor Cory Snow, Chair of the City’s Downtown Waterfront Transformation Committee unveiled Mr. Cormier's ambitious plans for the Shipyard property. With a substantial investment of up to $700,000, the space will undergo extensive renovations to become a year-round restaurant, bar, event, and meeting space. The project aims to blend modern amenities with the historical charm of the waterfront, creating a dynamic and inviting atmosphere. The property will see a massive facelift that will be sure to breathe new life through its doors.

Mayor Dan Kutcher expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "This is exactly the steps needed to forward our city’s vision for the transformation of our Downtown and Waterfront. The transformation of the Summerside Shipyard will not only enhance our downtown waterfront but also stimulate economic growth and create a vibrant community space. We are excited to see Mr. Cormier's vision come to life and look forward to the positive impact it will have on Summerside."

Deputy CAO JP Desrosiers, the city's staff lead on this project, emphasized its significance for the city's development. "The investment and renovation of the Shipyard property represents a very positive trend for our city’s tourism sector. This project will provide a year-round destination for both residents and visitors alike, as our tourism sector continues to see growth, new exciting products will be needed to support this growth. We are proud to support this initiative and look forward to its success."

Mr. Duke Cormier, the new owner of the Shipyard property, highlighted his excitement about the project's potential. "We are honored to be part of Summerside's transformation journey. Our goal is to create a space that reflects the city's rich heritage while offering modern amenities and experiences. We believe this project will become a cornerstone of the community, bringing people together and revitalizing the downtown area."

Construction and development to the Shipyard property are set to commence this summer with the anticipated soft opening of the reimagined venue in spring of 2025.
