2024 Powerlifting Nationals Coming to Summerside

City to Host 2024 Canadian Powerlifting Union National Championship

SUMMERSIDE, PE - The City of Summerside is thrilled to announce that the 2024 Canadian Powerlifting Union (CPU) National Championship will be held at Credit Union Place from September 9 to 14, 2024. This prestigious event will bring over 700 lifters from across the country to compete, showcasing their strength and determination. The championship promises to deliver not only thrilling competition but also significant economic benefits to our community.

Mayor Dan Kutcher expressed his excitement about hosting the national championship, stating, "We are incredibly proud to welcome the Canadian Powerlifting Union National Championship to Summerside. This event underscores our city's commitment to supporting sports and athletic excellence. We look forward to the economic boost and the opportunity to showcase our beautiful city to visitors from across Canada."

Deputy CAO & Director of Community Services JP Desrosiers also highlighted the significance of the event for Summerside. "Hosting the CPU National Championship is a testament to our city's capabilities and our dedication to fostering a vibrant sports culture. The influx of athletes, coaches, officials, and spectators will not only enhance our local economy but also continue to promote Summerside as a premier destination for major
sporting events."

Event Director Justin Smith shared his enthusiasm, stating, "We are very excited to welcome lifters, coaches, and officials from all across Canada to Summerside! The buildup to these championships spans the last decade, as we've hosted multiple local, provincial, and regional championships at the Credit Union Place since 2014. With lots of hard work, Summerside has been established as a competition hub in the Maritimes, and we're proud to say that the city will soon be known nationally as well. The lifting community is very excited to experience our Island's culture this September."

The 2024 CPU National Championship is expected to bring a wealth of economic spin-offs for Summerside, including increased business for local hotels, restaurants, and shops. The event will also provide an excellent opportunity for residents to witness top-tier athletic performances and engage with the national lifting community.
