Police Charge Two More Impaired Drivers On Weekend

     Summerside Police charged two more impaired drivers over the weekend. 

     The first incident occurred Friday evening at approximately 10pm when police noticed the vehicle travelling the wrong way on a one way portion of First St.

     The vehicle was stopped and the driver, a 34 year old Miscouche area man, showed signs of impairment and was arrested.

      He later provided breath samples in excess of the legal limit. 

     The second incident happened at approximately 12:30 am Sunday morning when police noted a vehicle on Duke St driving with no tail lights on.

     The vehicle was stopped on Maple Ave. and the driver, a 24 year old West Prince woman, was taken into custody after failing a roadside screening device test.

     She later provided breath samples that were twice the legal limit.

     Both drivers will be appearing in court at a later date to answer to impaired driving related charges.  Both drivers also had their vehicles impounded for 30 days.

     In a third driving related incident at approximately 4am Monday morning, police observed a vehicle driving the wrong way on a one way street and stopped it on Fitzroy St.

       The driver, a 38 year old Summerside man, was issued an administrative driving prohibition after a roadside test.  He was also charged with driving with a suspended license and failing to produce insurance upon request of a police officer. 

     The vehicle was also impounded. 

Man Caught On Video Stealing With Child Apprehended, Is In Canada Illegally

     On April 11, 2018, the Summerside Police received a complaint from the Granville Street Liquor Store of a man having stolen merchandise.  Video of the theft showed the man had a small child with him when the theft occurred.

     Police released images of the man in hopes of discovering his identity. 

     Then, Sunday afternoon at approximately 3pm, police received information from a member of the public that the man was presently at the Summerside Superstore.

     Police attended and located the man with the help of the witness.

     The man, who has been identified as a 34 year old resident of the United States, was taken into custody. He will be charged with theft by the Summerside Police and also has outstanding matters with the Charlottetown Police and RCMP.

       Police learned from the Canada Border Services Agency that the man has been in Canada, illegally, since 2016 and has an outstanding warrant in the U.S.

      The man is presently in custody and will be appearing before the courts later today.

Man Facing Impaired By Drug Charges

     At approximately 8:30 Friday morning, the Summerside Police received multiple calls of a Ford Escape being driven erratically in the Water Street East and Granville Street areas of Summerside. 

     Witnesses were reporting that the vehicle was crossing over into on-coming lanes of traffic and vehicles were having to drive off the roadway to avoid collisions. 

     Police located the vehicle in a Linden Ave parking lot where they spoke with a female occupant of the vehicle who indicated she was the driver.  The female, a 28 year old Stratford woman, was arrested for impaired driving after officers observed signs that she was under the influence of alcohol. 

     Further investigation revealed that a 38 year old Charlottetown man, who was also in the vehicle, was actually the driver.  He displayed signs of being impaired by drugs and was also arrested. 

     The male later refused to be examined by a drug recognition expert and is being charged with impaired driving by drug and refusing a demand.  He was later turned over to the Charlottetown Police who held a warrant of arrest for the man.

     The female is facing a charge of obstructing police and will appear in court at a later date.   

Man Facing Assault, Weapons Charges

     At approximately 7:30 Friday evening, police were called to a Granville Street business by staff members who were calling on behalf of a woman who ran into the store reporting her ex-boyfriend had just pulled a knife on her. 

     The suspect, a 21 year old Summerside man, fled the area before police arrived but he was located hiding behind a nearby business.  The knife was recovered near where the man was hiding.

     Police also had an outstanding warrant of arrest for the man.  He was remanded into custody and will appear before the court at a later date to answer to assault and weapons related charges. 

     The victim did not sustain any serious injuries as a result of this incident.

Man Facing Weapons Charges After Stabbing Incident

     Shortly before 9pm last Thursday, a 24 year old male attended the Summerside Police Service reporting he had just been involved in an altercation with another man and had been stabbed in the hand and shoulder. 

     The man reported that he had accompanied a female acquaintance to a Heckbert Street residence in order for her to pick up her child from the child’s father.

     At some point, the two men then became involved in a physical altercation and the suspect, a 31 year old Summerside man, brandished a knife.  The altercation ended with the victim receiving minor injuries to his hand and shoulder.

     The suspect was arrested a short time later and was held in custody until today when he will be appearing before the court.

     The man faces charges of assault with a weapon, assault, uttering threats, possession of a dangerous weapon and mischief.

Driver Facing Impaired Charge

     At approximately 11:30 pm last Friday evening, police officers on patrol in the Water Street East area came across a vehicle that had just driven off the road and into a snowbank.

     Police spoke with the driver and observed signs that he had been drinking.  The driver, an 18 year old Summerside man, then failed a roadside screening device test.  He was arrested and later provided samples of his breath that were in excess of the legal limit.

     The man will appear in court at a later date to answer to a charge of impaired driving.  His vehicle was also seized for 30 days.

Man Arrested on Warrant After Foot Chase

     The Summerside Police arrested a 20 year old Summerside man shortly before 4 am this morning after a foot chase. 

     Officers on patrol noticed the man, who was wanted on a warrant of arrest after having been charged earlier this month with break and enter into a residence, walking on Spring Street.

     When police approached the man, he fled but was apprehended a short time later and taken into custody. 

     The man was lodged at Prince County Jail and will be taken before the courts later today.

Stolen Vehicle

     On Friday evening, just after 6:30pm, the Summerside Police Service received a call of a vehicle having been stolen from the Superstore parking lot on Granville Street.

          The matter remains under investigation and anyone with information relating to this incident is asked to contact the Summerside Police Service or Crime Stoppers.

Traffic Stop Leads To Impaired Driving Arrest

     Just before 3am Saturday morning, police pulled over a vehicle in the South Drive area after observing it swerving on the roadway. 

     The driver of the vehicle, a 23 year old Miscouche area man, showed signs of alcohol consumption and failed a roadside screening test. 

     He was then arrested and later provided samples of his breath in excess of the legal limit. 

     He was released from custody and will appear in court at a later date to answer to an impaired driving charge.  The man’s vehicle was also impounded for 30 days.  

Impaired Driving Complaint Leads To Arrest

     At approximately 10:30pm Sunday evening, police received a call of a suspected impaired driver in the Water Street East area. 

     Police located the vehicle near Read’s Corner.  After speaking with the driver, a 62 year old Summerside man, it was determined he was not impaired but was subjected to a Canada wide driving prohibition.

     The man was arrested and later released from custody.  He will appear in court at a later date to face a charge of driving while prohibited.

Vehicle Hits House During Traffic Stop

     Just before 10am this morning, patrol members of the Summerside Police Service observed a vehicle being driven on South Drive with no license plate attached to it.

     Police followed the vehicle to the Sheen Street area where they attempted to initiate a traffic stop.  The vehicle then turned into a residential driveway, slid on some ice and then struck the residence, causing minor damage.

     The driver of the vehicle, a 28 year old Summerside man, was showing obvious signs of impairment and was arrested at the scene for impaired driving.

     The man then provided breath samples that were three times the legal limit.  He is being held in custody and will appear in court at a later date to answer to charges of impaired driving and driving with a suspended license.

Man Arrested For Vehicle Theft

     On the morning of December 9, 2017, a resident of Crozier Drive in Summerside reported that his vehicle had been stolen from his driveway sometime overnight. 

     Investigation by police identified a suspect in the matter early in the investigation, however, police were not able to locate the person, a 25 year old Summerside man, until yesterday when the man was arrested for theft of a motor vehicle.

     He was released from custody and will appear in court at a later date to answer to the charge.

Arrest Made in Theft of Wood Pellets

     On the morning of January 9, a Summerside business reported to police that someone had stolen a number of bags of wood pellets from the business sometime the previous night. 

     The suspect, a 21 year old Summerside man, was arrested on January 19 and will be appearing in court at a later date to answer to a charge of theft under five thousand dollars.

Two Men Facing Break and Enter Charges

At approximately 1 am this morning, the Summerside Police received a 911 call reporting two suspicious men that were on the property of a business on Water Street East.

Police made a patrol to the area but the suspects had left prior to police arrival. Officers were then able to track the suspects to another business that was nearby and found the two attempting to break into a utility trailer.

Both men were arrested at the scene and will be appearing in court at a later date to answer to charges of attempted break and enter along with possession of break-in instruments.

Woman Facing Driving, Drug Charges

     Just before 10:30 last night, officers on patrol observed a vehicle being operated in the Water Street East area of Summerside without a valid license plate being attached to it. 

     A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle in the parking lot of a business in the area at which time officers discovered that the driver of the vehicle, a 25 year old Summerside woman, was prohibited from driving anywhere in Canada. 

     She was arrested and a subsequent search turned up a quantity of marihuana. 

     As a result, the woman will be appearing in court at a later date to answer to charges of driving while prohibited and drug possession.  The woman’s vehicle was also impounded for 6 months due to previous driving-related convictions.

Men Arrested For Driving While Prohibited

     At approximately 1:30 am Friday morning, police conducted a traffic stop at a Granville Street parking lot on a vehicle that had been driving suspiciously.

     The driver, a 24 year old Summerside man, was found to be prohibited from driving anywhere in Canada.  He was arrested and will appear in court at a later date to answer to a charge of driving while prohibited.

     At approximately 12:30 am Saturday morning, police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Water Street that had committed a traffic infraction. 

     The driver of that vehicle, a 62 year old Summerside man, was also found to be driving while prohibited.

     He will also appear in court at a later date to answer to a charge of driving while prohibited.

     A third man was stopped Sunday afternoon on Read Drive for driving with a suspended license. 

     The 57 year old Summerside man, who is known to police, was observed driving.  He was stopped, ticketed and his vehicle impounded for 60 days due to previous driving related convictions.  

Woman Facing Multiple Theft Charges

     At approximately 10:15 am Friday morning, a Loss Prevention Officer from a Granville Street store called police reporting that they had a suspected shoplifter in custody.

     Police attended and arrested a 32 year old Summerside woman for theft from the store and for also breaching her probation by being on the store’s property. 

     Further investigation revealed the woman was in possession of stolen property from at least one other store at the time of her arrest. 

     The matter remains under investigation but the woman will be facing at least 2 charges of theft and 1 charge of breach of probation.

Man’s License Suspended for 7 Days

    At approximately 1am Sunday morning, police stopped a vehicle on Central Street due to a traffic infraction.  

     The driver, a 23 year old Calgary man, displayed signs of alcohol consumption and was given a roadside screening test, which he failed. 

     The man was then arrested and provided further breath samples that were not in excess of the legal limit but required that his license be suspended for 7 days. 

     The man was released from custody but his license will be held by police until the end of the 7 day suspension.
