Spring cleaning and property upkeep

SUMMERSIDE, PE (April 17, 2020) – The snow has melted slightly earlier this year and Spring is in full swing. Municipal crews have commenced seasonal maintenance of the City’s parks, greenspaces, historic sites and Downtown, as well as many individual property owners have began their own spring clean-up as we prepare for the warmer months ahead.

Summerside and its residents take great pride in the beautification of our City and individual properties. Having been involved in Communities in Bloom for several years, the City and residents together have long worked as a community to showcase the beautiful landscapes and tidiness of Summerside. It is evident our community takes great pride in the presentation of our historic city.

From time to time, comments and concerns are received regarding unsightly properties within the City. The City’s Dangerous, Hazardous and Unsightly Premises Bylaw was established to help keep the City clean, safe and attractive for all. The bylaw is applicable to any property that does not meet the general condition and state of tidiness of the City.

The bylaw applies to properties with:

  • Excess trash or litter
  • Objects or conditions that create fire, health or accident hazards
  • Heavy undergrowth
  • Lack of maintenance or repair

Communities in Bloom is a national program that challenges communities to enhance beautification and green spaces. Summerside has won numerous awards over the years at the annual symposium, most recently in 2019.
