1) LIFEGUARD(S)


The City of Summerside is seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals to work as Lifeguard within the Community Services Department. Duties will include all aspects of supervising and maintaining the Aquatic Centre at Credit Union Place. These positions are part time and full time and also may include evening and weekend shifts.

 

Current and up to date National Lifeguard Certificate, a valid Standard First Aid and CPR certificate are a definite asset. Lifeguards must be in good physical condition, be of good character, have good communications skills, and be courteous to the public.

2) CONSTRUCTION / CARPENTRY SUPERVISOR

Job Duties:

This position will work closely with the City of Summerside Project Manager and will provide supervision and guidance to three General Construction Labourers. This position will involve teaching a variety of construction / carpentry skills to the Labourers including common construction techniques. The Supervisor will teach the General Labourers how to assist carpenters, masons, landscapers and other specialized contractors with projects such as cabinetmaking, the installation of flooring, ceiling and wall board, grass, shrubbery and roofing, as required. Additional skills to be taught may include, but will not be limited to, workplace safety, the cleaning and preparing of a job site for construction, the loading and delivering of materials, the use of a variety of tools, construction site set up and take down, the set-up of temporary structures; and demolition. Other duties may include teaching General Labourers skills related to the stripping and treatment of woodwork, and the refinishing or protection of exterior stonework etc. The Construction / Carpenter Supervisor and the General Labourers will be required to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions and possibly in buildings without heating or air conditioning.

Educational Requirements:

The Construction / Carpentry Supervisor must have physical strength, hand eye coordination, and endurance. They must have extensive work and supervisory experience in the carpentry and construction field. They must also be able to concentrate on their tasks and be able to understand and communicate information effectively to other members of their team. Computer and estimating skills would be considered an asset. The minimum educational requirements for this Construction / Carpentry Supervisor position are a Carpenters Red Seal or Tradesman qualification.

3) GENERAL CONSTRUCTION LABOURERS

Work Experience PEI:

Funded in whole or part through the Canada-PEI Labour Market Development Agreement and/or the Labour Market Agreement. This position is being offered by Skills PEI under Work Experience PEI. To be eligible for this position you must meet the following criteria; Be unemployed and legally authorized to work in Canada; be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident; AND be an individual who has established a claim for Employment Insurance (EI) benefits; OR Be an individual whose EI benefit period ended within the last three (3) years; OR Be an individual who established and was paid a claim for EI maternity or parental benefits within the past five (5) years and is re-entering the labour force after having left it to care for newborn or newly adopted children; AND have a Return to Work Action Plan that identifies (a) lack of marketable skills as an employment barrier and (b) the need for new or additional occupational skills in order to find employment.

 

Job Duties:

Under the direction of the Construction/Carpenter Supervisor, the job duties may include cleaning and preparing a job site for construction, loading and delivering materials, and using a variety of tools and machines such as power drills, grinders, saws etc. Labourers set up and take down ladders, scaffolding and other temporary structures; they perform demolition duties and remove construction debris. They can assist carpenters, masons, landscapers and other specialized contractors with duties such as, but not limited to cabinetmaking, the installation of flooring, ceiling and wall board, grass and shrubbery and roofing. Other duties may include tasks related to the stripping and treating of woodwork, and the refinishing or protection of exterior stonework etc. General labourers may be required to work outside in all types of weather conditions or in buildings without heating or air conditioning.

 

Educational Requirements:

General Construction Labourers must have physical strength, hand eye coordination, and endurance. They must be able to concentrate on their tasks and be able to understand and communicate information effectively. There are no minimum educational requirements to be a general laborer, however having a high school diploma or its equivalent is an asset.
