1) Daytime/Part-time Lifeguard(s)/Assistant Life Guards/Swimming Lesson Instructors
Community Services Department

The City of Summerside is seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals to work in the following areas listed within the Community Services Department. Duties will include all aspects of supervising and maintaining the Aquatic Centre at Credit Union Place. These positions are required for morning, afternoon, evening and weekend shifts.

Current or past National Lifeguard Certificate, Bronze Medallion/Cross, a valid Standard First Aid and CPR certificate are a definite asset but training would also be provided to suitable candidates. Instructor certification and experience teaching Aquafit would also be considered an asset but are not required. Lifeguards must be in good physical condition, be of good character, have good communications skills, and be courteous to the public.

3) FITNESS CLASS INSTRUCTOR, THE FIT STOP

THE OPPORTUNITY:

 

Do you have a love for health and fitness? Do you love working with people, possess a very outgoing personality and work well in a team environment?  We want to meet you!  The City of Summerside’s Fit Stop is now accepting resumes for those interested in employment as a Group Fitness Instructor.  The position is part-time, year round and may include early morning, evenings, weekends and possibly holiday hours.

4) Cultural Summer Student Staff
$12.50/hr

Culture Summerside, the arts, heritage, and culture division of the City of Summerside, offers a number of interpretative guide/programming summer positions in its museum sites, archives, and programming. These front line positions hold the responsibility of being Culture Summerside’s first public impression. 

 

Skill set sought:

  • Pride, knowledge, and interest of local history and culture.
  • A willingness to invest in bringing the stories alive in an excited manner through first person interpretation. 
  • Ability to memorize tours.
  • A comfort in interacting with visitors to deliver top quality customer service and satisfaction.
  • Public speaking, and social skills with attention to detail. 
  • Willingness to multitask, be a team player, learn new skill sets, change gears quickly, dress in costume, set up and take down programs, and get dirty when necessary.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • French language and computer skills are assets.

6)  Assistant Operations Supervisor (Replacement Position)

 

Are you a highly motivated, results driven individual with a desire to build your community into a better place from the ground up? Would you like to play an integral role in continuing to develop Summerside as Canada’s Greenest City? If the answer is yes, then the City of Summerside has an opportunity for you!

 

Reporting to and assisting the Operations Supervisor, the Assistant Operations Supervisor is responsible for assisting with all aspects of managing the water and sewer, streets and sidewalks for the City of Summerside. The position requires the successful candidate to develop a program of exceptional customer service for facility users as well as ensuring safety procedures are implemented and followed by all staff and customers.

 

The ideal candidate will have a good general knowledge of water and sewage, streets and sidewalks systems. Possessing a Mechanical or Civil Engineering Degree will also be considered a strong asset. The candidate must have a valid driver’s license and existing water distribution and sewer collection certification levels will be considered an asset along with experience in municipal infrastructure projects and/or maintenance. Proven degree of commitment to perform high standards of work with leadership abilities and the necessary experience to maintain and develop effective working relationships with employees, municipal officials, civic organizations and the public are also a must.

7) Journeyman/Apprentice Power Line Technician (Replacement position)

 

The City of Summerside is seeking a highly motivated individual to work as a Power Line Technician within the Summerside Electric Utility. This is a responsible position reporting to the Distribution Supervisor. Duties include maintenance and construction work to Summerside Electric’s utility infrastructure, electrical substations, distribution lines and services for the City of Summerside. 

 

To be considered for this position candidates must possess a valid Journeyman Power Line Technician License or be actively involved in the Apprenticeship Power Line Technician training program for Prince Edward Island. Progressive experience in power line technician work, appropriate training courses, knowledge of the principles of Electric Utility operations and/or Communication Utilities operations would be an asset.

 

Candidates must have successfully completed grade 12 or equivalent, must have a valid Class 3A driver’s license, must be in good physical condition, be of good character, and be courteous to the public.
