1) Part-time Daytime Lifeguard & Evening/Weekend Supervisor 

The City of Summerside is seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals to work as Lifeguard within the Community Services Department. Duties will include all aspects of supervising and maintaining the Aquatic Centre at Credit Union Place. These positions are required for mornings and afternoons, with possible evening and weekend shifts.

Current or past National Lifeguard Certificate, Bronze Medallion/Cross, a valid Standard First Aid and CPR certificate, and WHIMIS 2015 Education are a definite asset but training would also be provided to suitable candidates. Instructor certification and experience teaching Aquafit would also be considered an asset but are not required. Lifeguards must be in good physical condition, be of good character, have good communications skills, and be courteous to the public.

Swim Instructor

The City of Summerside’s Aquatics Department is seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals for Swimming Lesson Instructors within the Community Services Department. Applicants must be fun, outgoing and love working with kids and must be at least 16yrs old. A background check will be required, as well as Swim Instructor training (20hrs) which The Aquatics Department are willing to provide with a contract agreement. The Aquatics Department will be running the 20-hour Lifesaving Society, Swim Instructor Course on March 27, 28, 29.

3) Technical Services Summer Engineering Student  (Term Position – Summer 2020)

Traditionally the start date for these positions is the first of May with the positions ending late August. The start date for the Summer Engineering positions this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic is on hold until the Chief Public Health Officer’s restrictions are lifted.

The City of Summerside does have a need for three students and therefore is receiving applications for Summer Engineering Students 2020.

Qualifications:
To be considered for this position candidates must:
• have a valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to a vehicle
• have a minimum completion of 1st year of an engineering university degree.
• Preference will be given to residents of PEI

Municipal Services Summer Engineering Student (Term Position – Summer 2020)

Traditionally the start date for these positions is the first of May with the positions ending late August. The start date for the Summer Engineering positions this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic is on hold until the Chief Public Health Officer’s restrictions are lifted.

This is a responsible position providing engineering support services for various City projects in regard to utility infrastructure. Work involves considerable contact with other municipal employees, contractors and the general public and will involve working irregular hours.

Qualifications:

To be considered for this position candidates must:

• Have a valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to a vehicle

• Be an engineering student in a post-secondary institution

Desirable Knowledge Abilities and Skills:

  • Utility (Water/Sewer and/or Electric) experience an asset
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
  • Knowledge of basic surveying.
  • Ability to express ideas effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of basic computer and other applications.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, contractors and the general public.
