Train to Save Lives

Credit Union Place offers training for experienced swimmers to become lifeguards through its Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross, and National Lifeguard programs.

  • Bronze Medallion (18-20 hr Course)
    The first in three steps in getting ready to become a National Lifeguard.

    This course teaches the understanding of the lifesaving principles and education of water rescue – judgment, knowledge, skills and fitness. Rescuers learn tows, carries and defense methods and releases in preparation for challenging rescues of increased risk such as unconscious/conscious victims of various types. Lifesavers develop stroke efficiency and endurance in a 500 m timed swim.

    Prerequisite: Minimum 13 yrs of age

    Required reference material: Canadian Lifesaving Manual

    Cost: $200.75 + HST

  • Bronze Cross (18-20 hr Course)
    The second in three steps in getting ready to become a National Lifeguard.

    This course is designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training including an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for all advanced training programs including National Life Guard & Instructor certification. It also includes a timed 600 m swim.

    Prerequisite: Minimum 13 yrs of age and have Bronze Medallion & Emergency First Aid

    Cost: $200.75 + HST

  • Bronze Medallion/Bronze Cross Combo (36-40 hrs)

    Participants are able to take a combo course that gives them all 3 certifications (Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross & Emergency First Aid)

    Prerequisite: Minimum 13 yrs of age

    Required reference material: Canadian Lifesaving Manual

    Cost: $325.00 + HST

  • National Lifeguard (40 hr Course)

    National Lifeguard certification is Canada’s professional lifeguard standard. National Lifeguard training develops a sound understanding of the lifeguarding principles, executing good judgement in a mature and responsible attitude towards the lifeguard’s role. This training emphasizes prevention and effective rescue response in emergencies including first aid treatment. Candidates develop teamwork, leadership and communication skills. Fitness requirements include a timed object recovery, 50 m sprint challenge, 50 m rescue drill and 400 m endurance challenge.

    Prerequisite: Must be 16 yrs of age and have updated Bronze Cross

    Required reference material: Alert Lifeguarding in Action & Canadian First Aid Manual

    Cost: $250.00 + HST
