The Council Chamber of Summerside City Hall takes on a much lighter feel when governmental matters are set aside for the hosting of the Mayor’s Heritage Tea, on Friday, February 22nd.
The Mayor’s Tea, a long established tradition in the city’s marking of Heritage Week, is a social community event. It celebrates in a relaxed manner the ongoing heritage and cultural life of the Island’s second city. Culture Summerside, the arts, heritage, and culture division of the city organizes the event on behalf of the mayor and council.
The City’s 2018 Heritage and Culture Awards are presented at the tea in recognition of the various heritage and cultural activities that are being carried out by citizens, making for vibrant community.
Culture Summerside will also reveal the first public component of its project, 1919 – PEI Soldiers Return from the Great War. Storyteller Shelley Stetson will bring to life memories of her grandfather, a war veteran.
Mayor Basil Stewart invites Summerside citizens and all Islanders to the tea which runs from 1:30 pm to 3 pm in the chamber on Friday, February 22nd. Both the food, program and company are excellent.
